MATCH REPORT
Triumphant Port Make it Title Number 10

Portarlington 2-13 Stradbally 1-08

This replay was eagerly anticipated among the gaels of Laois. It was take two as Stradbally and Portarlington met for the second time in a week. Thankfully the weather conditions were a lot better than last Sunday's rain swept game. All the big players turned in great performances for Port, David Sweeney and Hugh Emerson were outstanding. Sweeney was top scorer with 1-03 while a super fit "Hughie" scored three top class scores in the 2nd Half. Everything just seemed to go Port's way in this game and it just wasn't Stradbally's day. No doubt they will be contenders at the final stages of next years competition.

It was Stradbally who opened the scoring in the 5th minute with a Damien Delaney point from a free. David Sweeney levelled for Port with a point also from a free in the 6th minute. Then Stradbally went in front with thanks to points from Greg Ramsbottom and Tom Bowe. However Stradbally didn't score for the remainder of the half and Portarlington notched up a goal from David Sweeney which was made by a well-placed Hugh Emerson pass and three more points then came in the final minutes of the half from David Sweeney, Colm Bennett and Graham Burke to leave the score

HALF-TIME SCORE: PORTARLINGTON 1-04 STRADBALLY 0-03

In the second half Port upped the anti but Stardbally did manage to get three scores in the opening quarter from D. Delaney (2) and Padraig Langton to leave the score 1-06 to 0-06 with 15 minutes gone. The last quarter of the game was a battle of firepower as in all 11 different scores were recorded. Substitute Dermot "Doc" O'Connor got his first touch of the ball just after his introduction and from this sent a cracker of a goal to the Stradbally net, Hugh Emerson added to Port's total with a point. Damien Delaney replied for Stradbally with a free to keep them in touch. Score Port 2-09 Stradbally 0-07. Port got a point from Colin Bennett in the 21st minute, Hugh Emerson then got two points from play in the 22nd and 23rd minutes. The second point was a spectacular point from 45 Yards out. Port 2-12 Stradbally 0-07. Stradbally clawed back with a fisted goal from Tony Maher which came off a 45'. However this game belonged to Port and the Final score of the match from Graham Burke in the 33rd Minute sealed victory for Portarlington.
