Div 3 Final 2001 (Sunday 21st October)
at Stradbally
Portarlington lead by 0-4 to 0-2 at Half-Time thanks to the accuracy of
former Senior star Derek Coogan. On the resumption
two points from Seamus Connolly and Jason Horan had the sides level and a
comeback looked on for Ballyfin. Derek Coogan
again regained the lead to put Port a point ahead and a minute later substitute
Enda Burke sent the ball to the Ballyfin net and
4 points separated the sides. Ballyfin with a point from Darren McGill was
offset by a Darryl Foy point to leave Port ahead 1-6 to 0-5 at the end of
51 minutes. Derek Coogan and Jason Horan exchanged
points before Coogan added his 5th point to leave
the score 1-8 to 0-6. Then with time almost up Barry Lynam scored a goal for Ballyfin but time ran out and
Portarlington were winners.
Port Capt. Aidan Emerson accepted the cup.

Div 4 Final 2001 (Sunday 21st October)

2 Points from Donal Brennan in the opening minutes put the Arles/Kileen side ahead before Barry Brennan and Joe Lacey opened the saints account to level matters after
ten minutes. Willie Knowles put Joseph's ahead and a well taken goal by Liam
Butler put them 4 points ahead midway through the half. However points from
Paddy Morrissey, Donal Brennan and Brian O'Loughlin
put Arles/Kileen ahead at the interval.
HALF-TIME SCORE : ARLES/KILEEN 0-09 ST. JOSEPHS 1-04
Arles/Kileen added two further points in the opening minutes of the second half from Paddy Morrissey and Donal Brennan. Four points now separated the sides and Joseph's seemed to be running out of steam. They then began a great revival and for the next quarter of the game it was all St. Josephs. Barry Brennan got 2 points in the 37th and 45th minutes. Liam Butler got a point to narrow the gap and Barry Brennan levelled matters with a point. Joe Lacey gave the Saints the lead and they went 3 points ahead with time almost up. However Joseph's conceded a penelty and Pat Morrissey crashed the ball to the back of the Joseph's net and the sides were level. A point from 15 year old Donal Brennan put Arles/Kileen ahead after 58 minutes. In injury time Barry Brennan took a free which levelled matters and the teams with it all to do on the October Bank Holiday Monday.

Minor A Championship Football Final 2001
Deprived of a final last year after Graiguecullen were ejected St John Bosco Gaels returned on Sunday 7th October to conform their status as Laois minor champions at O'Moore Park Portlaoise. In miserable conditions and an error-ridden match Portlaoise controlled the first half but only scored once from play. They were three points up thanks to Tadgh Murphy (2) and Sean Tobin when St. John Bosco's got a penelty which was converted by Christopher Mahe. Tadgh Murphy scored a 45' and a Free for Portlaoise to leave Portlaoise 1 point in front at the break.

The second half was a nightmare for Portlaoise. Christopher Maher, became the key player in the game and he scored a point one minute after the resumption. With only six minutes of normal time left John Bosco's led 1-04 to 0-05. They could have gone further ahead a minute later had Mark Brennan not pulled another shot for goal just wide. Bosco's continued pressing for goals and the goal arrived in the 28th minute Enda Walsh found Doone to the left of the goal. He turned and twisted and he bundled the ball to the net. Doone then scored the final point of the game in the 62nd minute.

U-16 Division 2 League Final 2001
This Game originally fixed for McCann Park Portarlington was switched to The Rock on Sunday Morning last October 7th 2001. This game pitted local rivals St. Pauls (Courtwood/Emo combination) against O'Dempseys. In a thrilling encounter the St. Pauls team fresh from their championship B final win two weeks ago found themselves three points down in the opening minutes. However with the aid of a strong breeze, fought back to lead by 2 points at half-time thanks to three points from Niall Donogher and two each from Daragh Wheeler and Darren Strong.
HALF-TIME St. Pauls 0-07 O'Dempseys 1-02
Playing against the wind in the second half St. Pauls upped their game and scored three crucial goals. Niall Donagher calmy slotted the ball to the back of the O'Dempseys net after a penelty was awarded. Brendan Wilson and David Gorman scored the other two goals to secure a St. Pauls victory over a gallent O'Dempseys side.
Scorers for St. Pauls were Darren Strong 0-03, David Gorman 1-0, Niall Donagher 1-3, Darragh Wheeler 0-04 and Brendan Wilson 1-0

U 12 Football C'ship. Final 2001
Portlaoise retained this Championship after a good performance. They led by a goal (which was scored by Daniel O'Neill) at half-time. Portlaoise 1-3, O'Dempsey's 0-3.
Portlaoise upped their scoring power in the second half. Keelan Hunt cored a consolation goal for O'Dempsey's from close range in the dying moments. The final score was Portlaoise 2-6, O'Dempsey's 1-4.
Portlaoise Captain Paul Cahillane received the U 12 FC' A' trophy from Juvenile Board Chairman, Tom Jones.
This took place on Saturday 15th September, at the Old Pound. Teams from Portarlington, Portlaoise, Mountmellick, Gracefield, Stradbally, St. Pauls, and the host Club. Stradbally and O'Dempsey's contested the Final. O'Dempsey's ran out winners on a scoreline of Stradbally 1-4, O'Dempsey's 2-12
This was held on Sept. 8th. 8 teams took part - Tinryland, Mountmellick, Eire Óg, Portarlington, Moorefield, Athy, The Rock, and Portlaoise.
Portlaoise met Eire Óg in the Final. Portlaoise ran out winners 0-6 to Eire Óg 0-3.
In the IFC Final held in Stradbally on Saturday September 15 2001 Arles/Kileen took on last years beaten finalists Annanough. Arles-Kileen lead at the break 0-07 to 0-02. In the second half Annanough managed to keep Arles/Kileen to one point. Arles/Kileen though kept the lead they had at half-time and ran out winners on a scoreline of Arles Kileen 0-08 Annanough 0-05.
ALL-IRELAND CIC FADA FINAL 2001 Report
This Final took place in the Bray Emmets GAA Club in Co. Wicklow on the 15th September last. Mark Herbert (Kildare) was out to defend the title he won last year. He did this with a kick of 72m. In the Veterans section Keith Barr of Dublin was the winner with a kick of 62m ahead of Leo Turley former Laois star and Barney Rock (Dublin)
